libro Efectos Del Biosolido Municipal Compostado Como Medio De Cultivo Alterno A La Turba Utilizado En La Produccion De Pascuas (euphorbia Pulcherrima Willd. Ex Klotzsch).

Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd. ex. Klotzsch) is one of the most important crops in the ornamental industry of Puerto Rico. The objectives of this research were: to evaluate growth responses of poinsettia plants grown in different proportions of MSWC (Municipal Solid Waste Compost) with Pro-MixRTM, under a closed production system (Ebb- flow type), as well as a conventional open production system, and to identify microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) of the MSWC. The proportions used in the experiments were 0:100, 15:85, 25:75 and 50:50 of MSWC with Pro-MixRTM for the conventional system and 0:100, 25:75 and 50:50 of MSWC with Pro-Mix RTM for the enclosed system. Growth parameters evaluated were: initial and final plant height, fresh and dry weight and flower production. Substrate dilutions were done from samples containing proportions of 0:100, 15:85, 25:75 and 50:50 of (MSWC:Pro-MixRTM) to identify the microorganisms. Results showed better flower development and higher yield (fresh and dry weight) on plants grown in different proportions of MSWC under a conventional open system. However, poinsettias cultivated in the closed system (Ebb–flow type), had poor growth and unacceptable quality for market purposes. Aspergillus spp., Verticillium spp. and Penicillium spp were the most common fungal genera identified, whereas Bacillus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Pasteurella spp. and Staphylococcus spp. were the most common bacteria identified. These results suggest that an emended substrate with proportions of MSWC is an alternative to produce poinsettia plants with an acceptable quality.
